Power & Communications

HDPE conduit is the ideal protective pathway for applications, such as power utilities, telecommunications, fiber to the home (FTTH) and cable television (CATV).

Power and Communications

HDPE conduits (High-density polyethylene conduits) can protect wiring installations and act as a barrier between wires and the chemicals, contaminants, and elements of the surrounding environment. Installing HDPE conduits is especially vital for long-term electrical systems such as those in commercial and industrial settings. Because of its durability, HDPE conduit is commonly used for telecommunications, power utilities distribution, and fiber-optic applications. At WL Plastics, we offer a range of HDPE conduit solutions designed to meet the needs of challenging environments.

HDPE Conduit Explained

High-density polyethylene conduits or HDPE conduits are protective plastic pipes that house lengths of electrical wiring. High-density polyethylene plastic is a long-lasting, durable material that can resist chemicals, impact, and weather. As a result, HDPE conduits are often used throughout a variety of commercial and industrial applications.

Available in numerous sizes, electrical HDPE conduit can be easily joined with connectors or couplings to meet the needs of your specific wiring installation. Its high degree of flexibility and ease of installation make HDPE conduit particularly useful for underground applications.

WL Plastics HDPE Conduit

At WL Plastics, we use high-quality HDPE materials to manufacture telecommunications and electrical conduit pipe (duct or innerduct). Providing the ideal protective pathway, our HDPE conduit products can be used for everything from electrical distribution to telecommunications, CATV, Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH), and more. HDPE conduit from WL Plastics is extremely durable, offering excellent resistance to impact across a wide range of temperatures and the ability to protect against rock and root impingement.

Because of its high tensile strength and flexibility, HDPE conduit can be installed using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) to lower installation costs and minimize disruptions to work areas and the surrounding environment. Electrical HDPE conduit can also be installed using plowing or conventional trenching techniques.

Advantages of HDPE Conduits for Power and Communication

Quality

We use only the highest quality HDPE materials and never use filler material or recycled material. All of our electrical HDPE conduit is certified to ASTM D3350 standards and meets or exceeds cell class PE334480C or E.

Compliance

Our manufacturing processes for HDPE conduit strictly adhere to industry standards such as ASTM F2160, UL 651A, and NEMA TC-7.

Continuous Lengths

We offer our HDPE conduit on reels to provide long, continuous lengths that are easy to transport and install. This continuity eliminates joints, making it the ideal pathway for plowing installations and HDD.

Flexibility

HDPE can flex and bend without cracking or snapping and withstands shifts in the ground or terrain without damage. It operates within a broad thermal range and maintains excellent ductility even at low temperatures. The material’s high flexibility also allows the conduit to contour to trenches and be easily routed around ground obstacles.

Durability

Our HDPE conduit features unmatched toughness and high impact resistance. Using high-quality raw materials ensures that WL Plastics conduit won’t become brittle or crack with age.

Chemical Resistance

HDPE conduit won’t corrode, making it an excellent choice in environments with high soil or moisture exposure. The material is impervious to bacteria, pests, and fungal decomposition and also resists harsh chemical environments, including variable pH, and reactive minerals, protecting the expensive electrical or fiber optic cables housed inside.

Low Coefficient of Friction (COF)

HDPE has a naturally low COF and is receptive to lubrication. Lower COF means that HDPE conduit has a longer pull length, allowing for fewer manholes that are further apart than what would be possible with some other electrical conduit types.

Thermal Resistance

WL Plastics HDPE conduits are rated to hold electrical cables with operating temperatures up to 90° C (194° F). Electrical HDPE conduits retain toughness and ductility at cold temperatures down to -40°F (-40°C).

Applications for Electrical HDPE Conduit

Our HDPE conduits serve a broad range of power and telecommunications applications. Here are some examples:

  • Transportation wiring.
Electrical HDPE conduit has been extensively used by transportation departments to provide reliable power to lighting, traffic signals, digital signage, automatic toll booths, traffic monitors, and CCTV systems.
  • Underground power lines.
Overhead power lines require tree trimming, pole replacement, and constant maintenance from storm damage or general exposure to the elements. An underground HDPE-protected power line mitigates the need for extensive maintenance and offers excellent curb appeal in residential and commercial areas.
  • Telecommunications.
HDPE conduits provide enormous potential to the telecom sector. Capable of protecting massive fiber optic highways and reducing costly maintenance and down times, HDPE conduit is the ideal material of choice for communications technologies. WL Plastics offers custom colors and color stripes on our conduits to allow for easy and convenient identification.
