Benefits of HDPE
Discover why HDPE piping is the preferred choice for reliable, durable, and cost-effective piping systems.
Why Specify WL Plastics HDPE Pipe?
Simply stated… versatility and durability. For more than four decades HDPE pipe has proved itself in natural gas pipelines where a safe, leak-proof system is absolutely critical. WL Plastics HDPE pipe is a proven performer above ground, on the surface, below ground and even under-water. It can transport drinking water or some of the most hazardous waste materials safely and without leakage. These attributes make HDPE pipe a great solution for almost any method of installation, including direct burial, sliplining, pipe bursting and directional drilling.
Benefits of HDPE
WL Plastics HDPE pipe is joined by leak-proof heat fusion, electrofusion and various mechanical joining techniques. Leak-proof, fully-restrained heat fusion joins plain end pipes and fittings end to end or saddle fittings to the pipe sidewall without adding material to the joint or depending on friction, thrust blocks, seals, gaskets or mechanical devices to prevent leakage or disjoining. WL Plastics HDPE pipe is compatible with electrofusion, flanges and mechanical joining devices. As with any piping system, joints should always be made by properly trained qualified per-sons. Installation safety is increased because butt fusion joints are typically made on grade before placing the pipe in the trench; workers don’t need to be in the trench excavating for pipe bells or making joints every 20 feet.
WL Plastics HDPE pipe is tough and strong to withstand installation, internal pressure and external loads. This tough, resilient pipe can with-stand temperature extremes, seismic conditions, vibrations, water hammer pressure surges, burial at extreme depths or continuous exposure on or above grade.
WL Plastics HDPE pipe is lighter than alternative piping materials, which can result in significant savings in shipping, handling, and installation. Flexible WL Plastics HDPE pipe will field bend to follow curves, contours and easements, reducing the need for directional fittings and lowering installation costs. WL Plastics HDPE pipe retains flexibility for installation and operation in subfreezing conditions. Installation costs can be reduced with trenchless techniques that do not disrupt or require restoration of landscaping, roads or driveways. Trenchless installation techniques can place WL Plastics HDPE pipes below water bodies such as rivers, ponds and reservoirs, and even below existing buildings and structures. Sliplining and pipe bursting can rehabilitate deteriorated pipelines with new, leak-free WL Plastics HDPE, and pipe bursting can place a larger line through the old, deteriorated pipeline to increase capacity without removing the old pipeline.
WL Plastics HDPE pipe provides exceptional resistance to corrosive chemicals and soils. WL Plastics HDPE pipe does not rust, rot, or corrode, and it does not support biological growth or scale build-up. In lesser piping materials, susceptibility to corrosion and deterioration from environmental conditions are principal factors in premature failure, increased maintenance and repairs and reduced performance.
WL Plastics HDPE pipe offers substantial cost savings when compared to materials such as concrete, steel, ductile iron or PVC. WL Plastics HDPE pipe provides toughness, reliability and durability for extended performance that avoids the high cost of replacing or rehabilitating products that fail sooner. Over time, heat fused, leak-free WL Plastics HDPE piping systems can significantly reduce operating costs by safely delivering water or other fluids without the leakage inherent with traditional piping materials with joints that leak. Correctly made heat fusion joints do not leak – heat fused WL Plastics HDPE piping systems deliver from source to discharge without leakage to the environment, or inflows that overburden treatment systems. Don’t accept joint leakage – Use WL Plastics HDPE pipe.
The smooth, non-wetting inner surface of WL Plastics HDPE pipe provides an inherently low resistance to liquid flows to reduce pumping and operating costs. Unlike “traditional” piping materials where flow capacity deteriorates over time, WL Plastics HDPE retains flow capacity over the life of the system. WL Plastics HDPE piping does not need to be oversized to compensate for deteriorating flow capacity.
WL Plastics HDPE pipe contains no additives or compounds that can leach from the pipe to compromise water quality. When marked “NSF-61”, WL Plastics HDPE pipe is certified to NSF Standard 61 for potable water applications.
